The Urban Meadow Community Garden is a volunteer-run space at President and Van Brunt in Brooklyn, featuring a lawn, wildflowers, and raised beds.

Garden Rules
The Urban Meadow welcomes neighbors and volunteers alike; please respect shared spaces, harvest responsibly, keep paths clear, and follow posted hours and seasonal guidelines.
The Urban Meadow is a community garden organized entirely by volunteer members and is under the auspices of the GreenThumb division of the NYC Parks Department.
We welcome the community to enjoy the garden during the posted open hours.
Seasonal membership will re-open in Spring 2026 with a suggested donation of $40 per household and a commitment to upholding the responsibilities outlined in the Garden Bylaws and rules below.

URBAN MEADOW COMMUNITY GARDEN RULES
Please respect the garden and the following rules that apply to all members and visitors.
- Be courteous and respectful to others and the Urban Meadow
- Maintain a safe, clean, and attractive garden space
- Remove all trash, debris, and personal items from the garden in a prompt manner.
- Be safe. Supervise children. Children are not allowed in the shed. Children are not allowed to climb on the shed.
- Visitors must remain on the grass or on the garden path only.
- Do not pick flowers or take plants. They are planted and paid for by volunteers and are for the enjoyment of the whole community.
- Small debris, such as confetti, is not permitted.
- Dogs are not allowed in the Garden, with the exception of service animals. If you see anyone with a dog in the garden please let them know.
- Children love the Urban Meadow and we welcome them. Please teach children how to respect and enjoy the garden and make sure they do not damage plants and trees. Children must be supervised at all times and stay within the open grassy area of the Garden and not disturb any of the plots or plantings throughout the Garden, unless they are helping a member with gardening.
- Members must secure the garden when not in use
- Members must not leave the garden unattended during non-public hours
- Members must not share access codes for the gate or shed with non-members
- Harvesting
- Members may harvest a reasonable amount of produce from the designated communal plots, leaving enough for all members to get a share
- Do not harvest from individual plots without permission
- Garden Equipment Usage
- Members have shared access to Garden equipment including, but not limited to: shed and gardening equipment contained within, grill, communal tables, stage, wheelbarrow, wagon, and portable toilets.
- Members must take proper care of equipment and be responsible with all gardening tools. Everything should be cleaned, and put away properly when applicable.
- Members must inform Garden Leadership if anything is broken.
- If a member uses the hydrant to run a sprinkler, the wrench and cap must be returned to the shed.
- Grill use by members is first come, first serve. Members using grills must:
- Dispose of any coals in the grill from the previous use before new coals are added by (Coals are often too hot to dispose of on the day of use, so we ask that people dispose of any coals from the previous user before you use it).
- Clean the grill after use and remove any food and brush the grill surface.
- Return the grill tools to the shed.
- Cover the grill when finished or as soon as the grill is cool enough to be covered.
- Personal Events
- Large gatherings or parties are not permitted without prior approval from Garden Leadership through the reservation process for members.
- Members are responsible for cleaning up completely after events.
- All garbage should be bagged in black garbage bags and placed out on the street for garbage pickup.
- The Garden must be left in the same condition as prior to the event. Leave No Trace Behind!

- Outside Organizations
- Schools or other organizations must have prior approval for use of the Garden
- No smoking or alcohol is allowed in any community garden.
- The garden is open to the public from April 1st- October 31st on Saturday and Sunday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
